Using an Alias describes a situation in which a data location in memory can be accessed through different symbolic names in the program. Thus, modifying the data through one name implicitly modifies the values associated with all aliased names, which may not be expected by the programmer.

Typically used to allow you to re-use the same asset using various copies of the original under different aliases, this speeds up development time and allows you to roll out one application or page to multiple locations. Aliasing is most useful when it comes to large documents such as PDF’s, Word documents, and images.

Now let's see an example of an Alias being used in Solodev.

Step 1

Navigate to the folder to which you want to add the alias by selecting that folder in the left hand file tree. Mouse over the Add button and click the Alias option. A modal will pop up. Select the resource you'd like to create an Alias for in the Tree under Workspace.

Step 2

Name your Alias, Rank your Alias and provide a brief description before clicking the Submit button in the bottom right.
